Mike’s particular focus is in creating ‘architectural pearls’ and methods of making things, conceiving and developing joyous solutions resulting in exquisite details.  This attention to detail is evident in award-winning projects such as Wood Lane and Plashet School Footbridge.  Since founding Birds Portchmouth Russum, Mike has input into the design of each project with particular experience of leading infrastructure and residential projects.

Outside of the practice, Mike passionately engages in the education of architecture and professional discussions as critic, teacher, lecturer, and external examiner. He is an Honorary Associate Professor, visiting tutor and critic in architecture at Nottingham University.

Mike is also involved in the critical discussions of design quality in the profession, has judged RIBA competitions and chaired the panel for RIBA South East Regional Awards 2014.
