The ‘Jim Stirling 100’ (Dec 2024 edition) of ‘Casabella’ is full of inspiring articles, drawings and photos which recall architecture of dramatic form, rationality and beauty in an era of aspiration and hope.
Among those is ‘In Memoriam’ a drawing by Richard Portchmouth, of the shelved Columbia University Chemistry Faculty, captured as a ruin – evoking the lost opportunity.
This drawing forms part of a series of ruin drawings originating from Richard’s college thesis, RNLI HQ in Greenwich; National Gallery Sainsbury Wing for Jim Stirling and subsequent BPR projects including Stonehenge Visitors Centre.
